During an appearance on NBA Today this past Tuesday, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst noted that Luka Doncic may plan to sign a contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason.

However, observers shouldn’t expect it to happen immediately after he becomes eligible on August 2 – six months after his trade to L.A., according to Hoops Rumors.

Windhorst explained that Doncic is expected to be overseas at that time, training and competing with Slovenia’s national team as they gear up for this year’s EuroBasket tournament.

Given his past approach to contract decisions, Windhorst noted, Doncic tends to delay formalizing NBA deals until his international duties are complete.

So even if there’s mutual interest in finalizing an extension, it might be a matter of timing and logistics rather than hesitation or doubt about staying in L.A.
