Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic is confident that his team can compete for the NBA championship during the 2026-27 season.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick previously expressed his belief that Los Angeles could become a championship contender, and Doncic has now made it clear that he shares that confidence.
Speaking to reporters following Saturday’s practice, the Slovenian star explained that his belief in the team’s potential began during an offseason gathering in his home country.
“Since the first day,” Doncic said. “That simple. Since the first day everybody came together in Slovenia – except Cam [Carr] couldn’t make [it] – I believed that we can win a championship.”
The Lakers underwent significant changes during the offseason, adding nine new players after losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round of last season’s playoffs.
Los Angeles also entered a new era following LeBron James’ departure to the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency, leaving Doncic as the team’s primary star.
The 27-year-old has taken on a greater leadership role, including organizing a minicamp in Slovenia in August to help the revamped roster develop chemistry.
