After spending the past season with the Memphis Grizzlies on a two-way contract, guard Yuki Kawamura found himself on a new path this summer. The Grizzlies opted not to extend a qualifying offer to Kawamura, making him an unrestricted free agent.
He later joined the Chicago Bulls’ Summer League roster in hopes of continuing his NBA journey.
While grateful for his new opportunity, the Japanese guard admitted he was disappointed that Memphis chose not to bring him back.
Speaking with Damichael Cole of the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Kawamura expressed his fondness for the city and the organization that gave him a chance.
“I miss Memphis, for sure,” the player said. “Memphis people are so nice. I wanted to play in Memphis this year, too, but it’s business. I’m satisfied right now. The Bulls organization is great. Good opportunity for me.”
Despite the setback, the Memphis alum remains optimistic, viewing his time with Chicago as a valuable chance to showcase his skills and earn a spot in the league.
Kawamura averaged 1.6 points, 0.9 assists and 0.5 rebounds in 22 games in 2024-25.
