The Memphis Grizzlies have officially signed forward Cedric Coward to his rookie scale contract, as reflected in the NBA’s official transaction log.

Coward, a 6’6″ wing, began the 2024–25 college season with promise at Washington State University but was limited to only six games after sustaining a significant shoulder injury.

The injury sidelined him for the remainder of what would have been his senior season. Despite the abbreviated campaign, Coward impressed scouts by averaging 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game.

He also showcased efficiency, shooting an impressive 55.7% from the field and 40.0% from three-point range during that short stretch.

Before transferring to Washington State, Coward played two seasons at Eastern Washington University, where he developed into a reliable contributor over 66 games, averaging 11.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

He began his collegiate career at Willamette University in Oregon, giving him experience across multiple competitive levels.

On draft night, the Grizzlies made a bold move to secure the player’s services.

After acquiring the 16th overall pick in a deal that sent Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic, Memphis packaged a future first-round pick to move up five spots, ultimately selecting Coward with the 11th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Although Coward is not expected to participate in the NBA Summer League this month due to ongoing recovery from his shoulder injury, the Grizzlies are optimistic he will be fully cleared and ready for the start of training camp later this offseason.

Based on the league’s rookie salary scale, Coward is projected to earn approximately $5.7 million in his first year, with the total value of his four-year deal estimated at $26.3 million.

With Coward now under contract, 29 of the 30 first-round selections from the 2025 draft have officially signed.

The lone remaining unsigned pick is No. 22 overall selection Drake Powell, whose recent trade to the Brooklyn Nets is expected to be finalized shortly, likely completing the rookie signing class for the year.
