Grizzlies guard Cedric Coward described teammate Ja Morant as “one of the best people I’ve ever met” in an interview with Sam Yip of HoopsHype. Coward highlighted Morant’s generosity, recalling how he offered to buy groceries during a recent ice storm and consistently looks out for those around him.

Coward emphasized Morant’s personality off the court, saying he is “goofy” and enjoys joking with teammates, quoting movies, and creating a positive atmosphere in the locker room. “He’s one of the people I’d bring to my cookout,” Coward added, stressing the point that Morant’s character extends beyond his public image.

Morant has maintained solid production for Memphis this season, averaging 19.5 points, 8.1 assists, and 3.3 rebounds over 20 games while shooting 41% from the field. The 26-year-old point guard has played a central role in orchestrating the Grizzlies’ offense.

The Grizzlies currently hold a 20-33 record, sitting 11th in the Western Conference, amid a season of transition following the blockbuster deal that sent Jaren Jackson Jr., John Konchar, Jock Landale, and Vince Williams Jr. to Utah. Memphis acquired multiple future first-round picks as part of the transaction as they shift toward a long-term rebuild.

Coward, 22, has also been productive this season, averaging 13.3 points and 6.2 rebounds in 48 games, while providing defensive versatility on the wing.
