Jared Dudley is leaving the Dallas Mavericks to become the top assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets, according to Shams Charania. Andy Miller of Klutch Sports told ESPN that Dudley is finalizing a deal to join David Adelman’s staff ahead of the 2025–26 season.

Dudley, who spent the past four years on Jason Kidd’s staff in Dallas, played 14 seasons in the NBA before transitioning to coaching. He joined the Mavericks in 2021 and became known for his strong relationships with players and his ability to connect as a former player himself.

The move comes during a major period of change for the Nuggets. After firing Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth in April, Denver named Adelman as their full-time head coach on May 22. This upcoming season marks the Nuggets’ 50th in the NBA and their first without Malone on the sidelines since 2014–15.

Dudley will step into a prominent role as Adelman’s lead assistant, filling a key spot on the bench as the organization works to maintain its competitive edge in the Western Conference. The Nuggets finished last season 50–32 before falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the conference semifinals.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks are reshaping their own coaching staff following Dudley’s departure. Dallas has added Frank Vogel as associate head coach and is considering Phil Handy and Mike Penberthy for further roles. Player development coach God Shammgod is also expected to join the Orlando Magic.
