Virtus Bologna has officially parted ways with veteran forward Tornike Shengelia, concluding a successful three-year stint that ended with the 2025 Italian league championship.
The Georgian star is widely expected to continue his career at FC Barcelona, though no official confirmation has been made by the Spanish club.
Shengelia, 33, played a central role in Bologna’s domestic triumph this past season, earning Lega Serie A Finals MVP honors and leading the team in scoring with 15.6 points per game during the EuroLeague.
Across 28 EuroLeague contests in 2024-25, he averaged 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and shot 51.3% from the field, while improving his three-point accuracy to 36.2%.
The former CSKA Moscow and Baskonia forward has built an extensive résumé across Europe’s top competitions, including selections to the All-EuroLeague First Team in 2018 and multiple all-league honors in both Spain and Italy.
Since arriving in Bologna in 2022, Shengelia helped Virtus win back-to-back Italian Supercups and guided the team back to relevance in EuroLeague play.
His departure follows a difficult 2024-25 EuroLeague campaign for Virtus, which finished 17th in the standings at 9–25, falling short of the play-in round.
The Georgian national team captain previously played in the NBA with the Brooklyn Nets and Chicago Bulls before carving out a high-level career in Europe, including six seasons with Baskonia and a stint in Russia.
