The Brooklyn Nets have officially waived forward Maxwell Lewis, ending his brief stint with the franchise after acquiring him midseason from the Los Angeles Lakers as part of the trade involving Dorian Finney-Smith.
Lewis, the 40th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft out of Pepperdine, was seen as a developmental prospect with upside, but he was unable to secure a long-term role in Brooklyn’s rotation.
During his time with the Nets, he appeared in 21 games, averaging 5.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per game, while showcasing flashes of scoring potential.
The 6-foot-7 wing was acquired by Brooklyn in December, when the Nets sent veteran forward Dorian Finney-Smith to the Lakers in a multi-team deal that included draft considerations and young assets like Lewis.
Represented by agents Aaron Klevan and Thaddeus Foucher, Lewis will now become a free agent, eligible to be claimed off waivers or signed outright by another NBA team.
At just 22 years old, he remains a potential pickup for a team seeking a young, athletic wing with developmental potential.
