Maxwell Lewis delivered the decisive moment of the night in dramatic fashion, sinking the game-winning basket off an alley-oop inbounds pass to lift Tofas Bursa past Fenerbahce Beko 80–78 on the opening day of the 2025–26 Turkish BSL season.
Incredibly, it was Lewis’s only shot attempt of the entire game, but it came at the most crucial time.
“I just stayed ready,” Lewis said afterward. “Coach trusted me to make the play, and my teammates put me in the right spot. To hit the winner against a team like Fenerbahce, it feels amazing.”
While Lewis provided the highlight, it was Marek Blazevic who carried Tofas for much of the contest. The Lithuanian center turned in a dominant all-around performance with 21 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Yiğitcan Saybir also contributed significantly, adding 16 points and five boards to keep Tofas in contention throughout.
Fenerbahce, just days removed from winning the Turkish SuperCup, leaned heavily on newcomer Talen Horton-Tucker, who looked comfortable in his European debut.
The former NBA champion showcased his scoring and playmaking, finishing with 24 points and seven assists.
“It’s a different style of basketball, but I felt good out there,” Horton-Tucker said. “We didn’t get the result we wanted tonight, but this is just the beginning of a long season.”
Despite the loss, Fenerbahce’s focus now shifts to continental competition. As reigning EuroLeague champions, they are preparing for the start of their title defense in next week’s double-round.
They’ll host Paris Basketball on October 1 before traveling to Lithuania for a matchup with Zalgiris Kaunas on October 3.
For Tofas, the upset win against one of Europe’s elite clubs is a statement start to the season, powered by Blazevic’s consistency and capped by Lewis’s unforgettable game-winner.
