Cam Whitmore is reportedly drawing interest across the league as the Houston Rockets explore trade scenarios involving the 20-year-old forward, according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic.
Iko reported on Friday that Whitmore has been “the subject of a number of trade discussions in recent days,” citing sources with knowledge of the situation. The conversations are described as “fluid,” indicating no imminent deal but real movement behind the scenes.
Whitmore, the No. 20 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, just completed his second season with Houston. He averaged 9.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in 16.2 minutes per game in 2024-25 while shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from three-point range.
He is under contract for two more seasons on a four-year, $15.6 million rookie-scale deal. The fourth year is a team option, giving potential suitors cost control and flexibility.
Despite a productive regular season as the second seed in the Western Conference, the Rockets were eliminated in the first round by the Golden State Warriors in seven games. Whitmore appeared in three playoff games but logged just 1.7 minutes per contest and did not score.
Houston has already made headlines this offseason with the pending acquisition of Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns. That blockbuster deal, which becomes official on July 6, involved sending Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and several draft assets to Phoenix.
The addition of Durant further shifts the roster dynamic, potentially impacting Whitmore’s path to consistent minutes. With the Rockets entering a win-now window, general manager Rafael Stone could be weighing whether Whitmore fits that timeline.
Whitmore has played in 98 career games (5 starts), averaging 10.8 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 44.9 percent from the field.
