The Washington Wizards have been granted a disabled player exception after Cam Whitmore was ruled out for the remainder of the 2025-26 season due to a blood clot in his shoulder, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported Wednesday.

Whitmore, 21, appeared in 21 games this season, averaging 9.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 16.9 minutes per contest before being sidelined. His absence removes a versatile wing option for a Wizards team struggling at 10-32 and sitting 14 games out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The disabled player exception allows the Wizards flexibility to add a replacement player to the roster without exceeding the salary cap, providing an opportunity to strengthen depth on the wing.

Washington’s leading scorers this season include Alex Sarr contributing 17.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest and Kyshawn George, adding 15.5 points per game, while Tre Johnson averages 12.4 points off the bench.

Before his injury, Whitmore connected on 45.6% of his field-goal attempts and 28.6% from three-point range while playing primarily as a small forward.
