The Boston Celtics are receiving considerable trade interest for forward Sam Hauser, league sources told The Bill Simmons Podcast.
Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix reported that “the market is robust right now for Sam Hauser,” just days after the sharpshooter began his four-year, $45 million extension. At 27 years old, Hauser is viewed by rival teams as a low-cost, high-value contributor with elite shooting ability.
Hauser hit 41.6 percent of his three-point attempts last season, averaging 9 points per game in 22.1 minutes. He played all 82 regular-season games and provided consistent spacing in Boston’s second unit.
The Celtics have already moved on from Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis in cost-cutting deals this week, signaling a pivot toward financial flexibility. Holiday was traded to Portland for Anfernee Simons and draft compensation. Porzingis went to Atlanta in a three-team deal that brought back Georges Niang and a future pick.
With Jayson Tatum recovering from Achilles surgery and expected to miss the entire 2025–26 season, Boston is exploring ways to reshape the roster while remaining competitive.
Hauser’s manageable salary and shooting profile have made him an attractive target as teams hunt for rotation players under the second tax apron. He is not currently classified as untouchable in ongoing conversations, multiple front-office sources indicated.
Meanwhile, Boston is fielding trade calls on both Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, according to Shams Charania. Brown is in the second year of his five-year, $285 million supermax contract. White, who signed a four-year, $118 million extension in 2024, averaged 18.8 points per game in the playoffs.
Boston finished the 2024–25 regular season with a 61–21 record and the second seed in the Eastern Conference. After defeating Orlando in the first round, the Celtics lost in six games to the New York Knicks in the semifinals following Tatum’s injury in Game 4.
