According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Boston Celtics have traded Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for guard Anfernee Simons and a pair of second-round draft selections.
Holiday, who provided Boston with veteran leadership and defensive prowess, averaged 11.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game last season.
In return, the Celtics are acquiring Simons, a dynamic scorer who posted averages of 19.3 points and 4.8 assists during the 2024–25 campaign.
Simons is currently in the final year of his contract and is slated to become an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
As reported by Bobby Marks, the move is expected to generate approximately $40 million in luxury tax savings for Boston, providing the team with greater financial flexibility moving forward.
Per Jake Fischer, the Celtics will receive two future second-round draft picks – one in 2030 via the New York Knicks and another in 2031 from the Trail Blazers – as part of the deal.
Charania also noted that Boston remains active in trade discussions, suggesting that further roster changes could be on the horizon.
