At 37, the Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Mike Conley is more attuned than ever to what drives him – and when he’ll know it’s time to walk away.
“I tell the guys all the time, ‘If you see a day where I’m not smiling… tell me to retire,’” Conley said.
For now, the flame is still burning. He’s committed to playing for at least two more seasons and cherishing every moment of the journey.
“It’s about being present. About not taking it for granted. Especially at my age… You really can’t.”
Conley has played 18 seasons for the Grizzlies, Timberwolves, and Jazz. He has averaged 14.1 points, 5.7 assists, and 2.9 rebounds in 1,172 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 1 All-Star game.
