Although the Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Mike Conley is thriving now, his journey to the postseason wasn’t without serious challenges, including a difficult wrist injury that lingered throughout the year.

“One of the toughest injuries for me has been the wrist,” the veteran shared. “I had to be in a cast for like two months last summer. And during that time, I couldn’t shoot a ball, touch a ball. Nothing.”

For a player as dedicated to offseason preparation as Conley, the setback was especially frustrating.

“Going into training camp, I had no strength [in my wrist]. It was weak, [there was] still pain… It’s been a battle all [season].”

Now, Conley feels he’s finally turning a corner: “Hopefully, it will be even better next season.”

Conley has played 18 seasons for the Grizzlies, Timberwolves, and Jazz. He has averaged 14.1 points, 5.7 assists, and 2.9 rebounds in 1,172 regular-season games.

He was selected to play in 1 All-Star game.
