The Charlotte Hornets have waived point guard Mike Conley after acquiring him on Wednesday in a trade with the Chicago Bulls, the team announced via Twitter.
If Conley clears waivers along with his $10.8 million salary, he will be eligible to sign with any team except Chicago.
There has been speculation about a possible return to the Minnesota Timberwolves, which would be allowed since he was traded twice before being released, though nothing has been confirmed.
Minnesota added guard Ayo Dosunmu in a separate deal with Chicago but still has two open roster spots.
Conley, 38, appeared in 44 games this season in a reserve role, averaging 4.4 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 18.5 minutes per game.
Conley was sent to Chicago on Tuesday in a three-team trade involving the Detroit Pistons before being rerouted to Charlotte a day later in the Coby White deal.
