French guard Nolan Traore, widely considered a potential lottery selection in the upcoming NBA Draft, has officially declared for the draft, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.

Just 18 years old, Traore has been competing professionally in his native France, suiting up for Saint-Quentin – a club that plays both in the country’s top-tier Pro A league and in the Basketball Champions League.

Despite his youth, Traore has been making a solid impact, averaging 11.5 points and 4.9 assists in just 23 minutes per game.

His production comes on a team competing at both domestic and international levels, making his performance even more impressive given the caliber of competition.

Currently ranked No. 18 on ESPN’s big board, Traore is projected even higher by The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie, who slotted him at No. 16 in his most recent mock draft.

At 6-foot-4, Traore has drawn attention from scouts for his dynamic playmaking, physical tools, and potential upside.

“I’m excited to take the next step in my career and declare for the NBA draft,” Traore told ESPN.

“I still have many goals with my team – to finish the regular season strong, make the playoffs, and then have a great draft process. I want to be drafted to the best situation with a pathway to earn playing time right away. I’m ready for that challenge.”

While Traore has flashed talent, he’s also had to navigate the steep learning curve of playing in a competitive professional environment at a young age.

Turnovers and shooting consistency have been areas of concern, compounded by the physicality of the Pro A league.

With a 29% usage rate – the second-highest in the league – Traore has been tested extensively this season.

Reflecting on his development, Traore acknowledged the adversity he’s faced: “It has been a challenging year in France that has made me a much better and tougher player,” he said. “The NBA is not going to be easy, and I think that this season will help me a lot in that regard.”
