Alijah Arenas, the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, was involved in a severe car accident early Thursday morning, leading to hospitalization and an induced coma, sources confirmed to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The incident has left the basketball community concerned for Arenas, who is considered one of the top young prospects in the country.

Arenas, a five-star recruit, had an outstanding high school career, earning McDonald’s All-American honors at Chatsworth High School.

His talent on the court led to a commitment to the University of Southern California (USC), where he is expected to continue his basketball journey at the collegiate level.

Before the accident, Arenas spoke about his personality and approach to life.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Myckena Guerrero before the 2025 McDonald’s All-American game, he described himself as someone who enjoys bringing joy to others.

“I’m kind of a guy that just likes to laugh and have fun, that’s my thing. No matter where I am … I just want to make everybody smile,” Arenas shared, reflecting his positive and light-hearted nature both on and off the court.
