The New Orleans Pelicans are set to bring in Joe Dumars as their new president of basketball operations, signaling a major leadership change at the top of the franchise.
Dumars will take over for David Griffin, who held the position since 2019 and oversaw multiple roster changes and playoff appearances during his tenure.
Dumars brings with him a wealth of front office experience. He previously served as the architect behind the Detroit Pistons from 2000 to 2014, a period that included an NBA championship in 2004 and consistent playoff success.
More recently, he worked as chief strategy officer for the Sacramento Kings between 2019 and 2022 and has held a high-ranking role within the NBA league office as executive vice president of basketball operations since 2022.
Upon joining the Pelicans, Dumars is expected to quickly get involved with the existing basketball operations team, which includes general manager Bryson Graham, who is highly regarded around the league, and head coach Willie Green.
The organization is looking to rebound from a disappointing 21-61 record in the 2024–25 season, a campaign heavily impacted by injuries to key players.
The hiring of Dumars marks a new chapter for the Pelicans as they aim to stabilize and retool their roster heading into the future.
