The Charlotte Hornets confirmed in an official press release that they have officially added Jaylen Sims to their roster on a 10-day contract.
This short-term deal allows Sims to showcase his skills at the NBA level while also giving the Hornets additional depth amid their ongoing injury concerns.
The news of Sims’ signing was initially reported by Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer.
His addition comes even though Charlotte currently has a full 15-man standard roster.
However, the team was able to bring him on board by utilizing a hardship exception, which allows teams to temporarily exceed roster limits when multiple players are sidelined due to significant injuries.
A native of Charlotte, Sims went undrafted out of UNC Wilmington in 2022 but has remained within the Hornets’ developmental system, spending the past three seasons with the Greensboro Swarm, the team’s NBA G League affiliate.
The 6-foot-6 guard has steadily improved his game and made a significant impact with the Swarm during the 2024-25 season.
Throughout 49 games, Sims has averaged an impressive 19.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 32.9 minutes per game while shooting 44.2% from the field, 37.5% from three-point range, and 83.7% from the free-throw line.
His consistent production in the G League has now earned him a chance to contribute at the NBA level.
Financially, Sims will earn $66,503 throughout his 10-day contract, which will also be reflected as an identical cap hit on the Hornets’ books.
He will be eligible to participate in up to five games during his time with the team.
Given that he is now playing for his hometown franchise, this opportunity marks a significant milestone in his professional basketball journey.
It remains to be seen whether Sims will make enough of an impression to secure a longer-term role with the Hornets, but this stint provides him with a platform to prove his worth and potentially carve out a future in the NBA.
