LeBron James has long been anticipated to play for one or two more seasons in the NBA, but the exact timeline of his retirement remains uncertain.

He doesn’t seem to know when the end of his illustrious career will come. James, who turned 40 in December, is in his 21st season in the league.

“It’s popping up more and more every year,” James commented during his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday.

“Obviously, I know that I’m on the other side of the hill than the other side. For me, it’s about my mindset. I’m focused on the process. If it reaches a point where I no longer feel the motivation to show up at the arena five hours before the game, or if I lose the desire to train or study my opponents’ game plans, that’s when I’ll know it’s time to walk away. I’ll be able to recognize it myself when I’m ready.”

James is also on track to secure a spot on the All-NBA team for the 19th time in his career, with the only exceptions being his rookie season in 2004 and the injury-riddled 2018-2019 season.
