Marcus Morris, a free agent, shared his thoughts on Sixers president Daryl Morey during an appearance on The Kevin O’Connor Show podcast.
When asked about Morey’s recent comments on using AI for decision-making, Morris was critical of the executive.
“I don’t trust Daryl Morey. I just don’t trust him,” Morris stated. He went on to explain that Morey’s approach to team-building seems misguided, suggesting that Morey is “thinking too far ahead” and is trying to create a completely new team.
He questioned the logic behind constantly flipping players in and out, asking, “Does he even understand the dynamic of being in Philadelphia?”
Morris also expressed frustration with Morey’s handling of James Harden.
“You tell my guy (Harden) that you’re gonna do something for him, a guy that you brought from all these teams, and then you don’t,” he said, questioning whether AI influenced decisions like not paying Harden or pursuing players such as Paul George and Caleb Martin.
He also criticized Morey for trying to build a new team in hopes of winning a championship.
“I haven’t seen any team that has 10 new guys be really good the following year,” he said, adding that Morey is “trying to outsmart the game too much.”
Morris, a Philadelphia native, reflected on his experiences with Morey, citing incidents like being sent to the G League as a rookie “for no reason” and being traded off the 76ers for a “bag of chips” despite playing well for his hometown team.
