The Daryl Morey era in Philadelphia has officially ended after six seasons, marking a major leadership change for the Philadelphia 76ers during a pivotal offseason window.

NBA insider Shams Charania reported on Tuesday, May 12, that the Philadelphia 76ers have parted ways with president of basketball operations Daryl Morey after six seasons.

According to his report, the decision followed a meeting in Philadelphia between Morey and team ownership Josh Harris and David Blitzer, where both sides agreed to move in a different direction. He also noted that head coach Nick Nurse will remain in place entering his fourth season, while Bob Myers will oversee the interim basketball operations structure and lead the search for a permanent replacement.

Philadelphia’s 2025-26 season highlighted both production and volatility. The team finished 45–37 in the regular season, led by strong perimeter scoring and high usage from its core rotation.

Tyrese Maxey anchored the offense with 28.3 points per game across the regular season, while Joel Embiid added 26.9 points in limited availability due to injuries. Paul George contributed 17.3 points as a secondary option in a reduced role compared to past seasons.

Despite the talent core, the postseason ended quickly. The New York Knicks eliminated Philadelphia in a 4–0 series sweep in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, exposing defensive inconsistencies and late-game execution issues.

Across the playoffs, Maxey led the group with 23.7 points per game, while Embiid posted 24.0 points but saw efficiency dips from three-point range. The early exit intensified scrutiny on roster construction and long-term direction.
