EuroLeague shareholders are preparing to make a major decision regarding the competition’s expansion, with the league expected to grow to 24 teams beginning with the 2027-28 season.
The proposed format would add eight franchises to the competition, and 13 clubs are currently competing for those positions.
Hapoel Jerusalem and Aris BC have joined the original 11 candidates that presented their projects in August.
The other teams in contention are Crvena Zvezda, Dubai Basketball, Hapoel Tel Aviv, London Lions, Napoli Basket, PAOK, Paris Basketball, Partizan Belgrade, Roma Maxima, Valencia and Virtus Bologna.
The franchise selection process is expected to be the main subject of the upcoming owners’ meeting in Lake Como.
With more candidates than available positions, EuroLeague shareholders will have to determine which markets and clubs will become part of the competition’s long-term structure.
