Cody Martin, traded to Phoenix from Charlotte at the deadline, is recovering from a sports hernia injury and has yet to play for the Suns.

However, he’s been upgraded to questionable for Friday’s game against Sacramento and is expected to play if his pregame workout goes well, according to coach Mike Budenholzer.

Martin missed most of the last two seasons due to injuries but was healthy for the first half of this season with the Hornets, playing 39 of 41 games and averaging 7.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.

He was traded along with Vasilije Micic and a second-round pick for Jusuf Nurkic and a first-rounder.

Known for his defensive versatility, Martin could help the Suns, who rank 27th in defensive rating, though he’s unsure if he’ll immediately join the rotation.

Martin stated he’s focused on staying prepared and contributing when given the opportunity.

A recent G League stint helped him prepare for his NBA return through high-intensity workouts and game simulations.

With the Suns still fighting for a play-in spot, Martin’s non-guaranteed $8.68 million salary for next season gives him motivation to perform well and earn consistent minutes.
