Bam Adebayo set a new Miami Heat record for career double-doubles, leading his team to a 106-90 victory over the Washington Wizards on Monday night.
Adebayo finished with 19 points and 15 rebounds, surpassing Rony Seikaly’s franchise mark of 221 double-doubles. He grabbed the record-setting rebound late in the second quarter, further cementing his legacy in Miami.
Duncan Robinson added 17 points, while Tyler Herro and Pelle Larsson each contributed 16 as the Heat (29-31) secured their third win in four games. Despite their recent struggles, Miami remains in contention for a top-six seed in the Eastern Conference.
Washington (11-49), which holds the NBA’s worst record, never found a rhythm offensively. The Wizards shot just 36.9% from the field, falling behind by double digits in the second quarter and never seriously threatening a comeback.
Khris Middleton led Washington with 16 points, while Carlton “Bub” Carrington scored 14. The Wizards also lost rookie Kyshawn George in the fourth quarter after he took an accidental elbow to the jaw from Adebayo.
Miami controlled the game early, taking a 50-31 lead late in the second quarter after a Herro three-pointer capped a 14-3 run. The Wizards managed to score 32 points in the third but still trailed by 13 entering the final period.
The Heat shot 47.6% from the field and 35.1% from three-point range. Their defensive effort was even more impactful, forcing 13 Washington turnovers and limiting the Wizards to just 12 points in the second quarter.
Alec Burks started for Miami and contributed nine points, while Terry Rozier had 15 points and five assists. Kevin Love, despite a quiet scoring night, grabbed nine rebounds in 12 minutes.
Off the bench, Miami received solid contributions from Robinson, Larsson, and Haywood Highsmith, who combined for 41 points. Kyle Anderson also played a key role with five assists and three steals.
Washington struggled to find consistent scoring beyond Middleton and Carrington. Rookie big man Alex Sarr shot just 3-for-12 from the field, while Bilal Coulibaly managed only three points in 33 minutes.
