The Philadelphia 76ers are set to add forward David Roddy on a 10-day contract after he clears waivers, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer. The move comes just days after the Atlanta Hawks waived the former first-round pick.
Roddy, 23, was traded to Atlanta last summer in exchange for E.J. Liddell but struggled to find a consistent role with the team. In 27 games this season, he averaged 4.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 12.8 minutes per contest.
Philadelphia is looking to add depth as the team tries to climb the standings in the Eastern Conference. The Sixers are currently 11th in the East with a 20-32 record, sitting just outside the Play-In Tournament.
Roddy’s signing gives Philadelphia another option in the frontcourt, especially with Joel Embiid sidelined due to a knee injury. The Sixers have struggled without their superstar, leading to speculation that they may continue making roster moves.
Atlanta, currently ninth in the East at 25-28, waived Roddy to create flexibility ahead of the stretch run. The Hawks prioritized other rotational pieces and opted to move on from the 6-foot-6 forward.
Roddy’s contract with Philadelphia will give him a short window to prove he belongs in the league. If he performs well, the Sixers could extend his stay with a second 10-day deal or a rest-of-season contract.
