Newly promoted Philadelphia 76ers executive VP of basketball operations Jameer Nelson says that becoming a coach seriously crossed his mind before turning to scouting/front office roles several years ago.

(via Philadelphia 76ers):

“I’m going to be honest with you, I thought I was going to be a coach. But when you’re working in the front office, you get to coach in your own way. So, starting myself as a scout in the G League and being able to help and run a team in the minor leagues, it’s important for your growth. It’s important for your, I would say for me, being shaped into the executive that I am now. But yeah, collaborating with coaches and players and things like that, I quench my thirst for coaching there. So I was brought in as like I said, a scout, and Elton [Brand] hired me and I continue to grow. He gave me the space to grow, and I’m here now.”
