The Philadelphia 76ers have made the decision to promote Justin Edwards from his two-way contract to a standard contract, offering him a two-year deal with a team option for the following season.
This move reflects Edwards’ growing importance within the team, particularly as he has become a vital part of the rotation under head coach Nick Nurse.
Initially, Edwards’ playing time came as a result of the 76ers’ depleted roster, with several key players sidelined. However, the second-round pick took full advantage of the opportunity, establishing himself as a reliable contributor.
Over the course of 22 games, including seven starts, Edwards has shown significant promise, averaging 8.1 points per game on an efficient 47% shooting, along with 3.1 rebounds per contest.
By incorporating a team option for next season in Edwards’ contract, the 76ers retain some flexibility.
Should they choose to decline the option, Edwards will become a restricted free agent this summer, giving both him and the team the chance to negotiate a longer-term contract that could reflect his development and increased role with the franchise.
