The Philadelphia 76ers are committing to forward Justin Edwards with a fresh three-year contract following his promising rookie campaign, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.
After declining his $1.9 million team option, the Sixers negotiated a new deal that will pay Edwards $2 million next season and guarantees two of the three years, per Charania.
Edwards, 21, went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft but worked his way up from a two-way deal signed on July 4 to a standard NBA contract by February 9. He went on to appear in 44 games, starting 26, and averaged 10.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists over 26.3 minutes per game.
The 6-foot-7 wing shot 45.5% from the field and 36.3% from three-point range, showing growth as a perimeter shooter and energy defender. His production stood out on a 24-win Philadelphia squad that missed the playoffs and finished 13th in the Eastern Conference.
Philadelphia’s front office, led by Daryl Morey, views Edwards as a long-term rotation piece as the franchise transitions into a developmental phase. He joins first-round pick V.J. Edgecombe and second-rounder Johni Broome as part of the Sixers’ youth movement heading into the 2025-26 season.
