The Los Angeles Lakers are not stopping after landing Luka Doncic in a major trade with the Dallas Mavericks. A league insider revealed that the Lakers are actively exploring further moves.

Tim Reynolds tweeted, “A person within the league sends a text: ‘Everybody knows the Lakers are trying to do more even after this.’” This suggests that Los Angeles has bigger plans in mind, even with the blockbuster acquisition of Doncic.

The Lakers’ trade with the Mavericks sees Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris heading to Los Angeles, while Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick go to Dallas. Additionally, the Utah Jazz joined the deal, receiving Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.

Shams Charania broke the news, reporting that the Mavericks initially approached the Lakers with an offer for Doncic. Following internal discussions, Los Angeles decided to move forward with the trade, recognizing the 25-year-old as a long-term franchise centerpiece. Charania noted, “This deal materialized in the shadows.”

Doncic, who is currently sidelined with a calf injury, is having an impressive season, averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists. His offensive prowess and playmaking ability are expected to keep the Lakers competitive for years to come.

Meanwhile, the trade creates a gap in the Lakers’ frontcourt. The departure of Davis, who averaged 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists this season, leaves Los Angeles without a key defensive anchor. Even before the trade, the Lakers had been reportedly interested in adding another big man. Now, this need becomes more pressing.

The Mavericks, in return, get a dominant two-way player in Davis, who will complement the high-scoring duo of Kyrie Irving and Doncic. Dallas views this deal as a push to strengthen their immediate championship contention.

Currently, the Lakers sit at 28-19, ranked fifth in the Western Conference, while Dallas holds the eighth spot at 26-23. With both teams now adjusting to their new rosters, the trade is sure to shift the balance of power in the West.

As the Lakers integrate Doncic into their lineup, they also face the challenge of keeping him healthy and happy. His partnership with LeBron James will undoubtedly become one of the league’s most captivating storylines.

Despite acquiring Doncic, the Lakers are still looking to improve. With an opening in the frontcourt and a team hungry for another title run, expect further moves before the trade deadline.
