The NBA world was rocked by the trade sending Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis. As the dust settles, Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker shared his thoughts on the monumental deal.

“It’s crazy man. I really don’t know what to say about it,” Booker said, reflecting on the trade. “Luka being a guy that everybody has claimed is untouchable and untradeable. The NBA shows you again, it’s a business. They’re always having a conversation about you. Don’t think that you’re safe,” Booker added, per Duane Rankin.

The deal has shaken up the Western Conference. The Lakers will receive Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris, while the Mavericks land Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick. Additionally, the Utah Jazz act as facilitators, picking up Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.

NBA insider Shams Charania reported that the Mavericks initiated the trade talks with the Lakers. Los Angeles, after internal discussions, decided that Doncic could be their franchise cornerstone for years to come. Charania described the trade as one that “materialized in the shadows,” catching even LeBron James and Anthony Davis off guard.

Doncic, sidelined with a calf injury, has been one of the NBA’s top performers this season. Averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists, his offensive game and playmaking ability are expected to elevate the Lakers as they aim for the future.

However, the trade leaves a gap in Los Angeles’ frontcourt. The departure of Davis, who is averaging 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists this season, creates a hole for the Lakers that will need to be addressed. This gap could push Los Angeles to make additional moves in the near future.

On the flip side, the Mavericks are acquiring a versatile two-way player in Davis. With Davis’ elite defense and scoring ability, Dallas aims to bolster their championship chances alongside star guard Kyrie Irving.

As of now, the Lakers hold a 28-19 record, sitting fifth in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Mavericks are eighth at 26-23. The trade could dramatically alter the playoff race as both teams adjust to their new rosters.

This trade has set the stage for one of the most intriguing partnerships in the league: Doncic alongside LeBron James. The Lakers will have the dual responsibility of keeping Doncic healthy and happy, while trying to build a championship contender around their new star.

The Jazz, who facilitated the trade, are continuing to stockpile young assets. Their acquisition of Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks signals a long-term strategy for the team.
