Dallas Mavericks guard Dante Exum is nearing his return, according to head coach Jason Kidd. Speaking to reporters, Kidd said Exum is “trending in the right way” and could make his 2024-25 season debut during the team’s current road trip.
Exum has been sidelined since undergoing wrist surgery in October and has yet to play this season. Kidd noted that the guard’s wrist “feels really good” and that his progress in rehab has been promising.
The Mavericks continue their road trip with four games against the Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Boston Celtics. Kidd did not confirm when Exum will return but left the possibility open for one of these matchups.
Exum last played in the 2024 NBA Finals and was a key part of Dallas’ rotation. He averaged 7.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 19.8 minutes per game last season.
Dallas has been dealing with multiple lineup challenges, including Luka Doncic missing 18 games due to injury. The Mavericks currently hold a 26-22 record, sitting eighth in the Western Conference.
Exum’s return could provide needed depth in the backcourt as the Mavericks look to improve their playoff position. His defensive versatility and playmaking ability could help stabilize the rotation.
Dallas will continue to monitor Exum’s progress before determining when he will make his debut. If his recovery continues as expected, he could be back on the court in the coming days.
