Dallas Mavericks guard Dante Exum is expected to miss at least three months after undergoing surgery on his right wrist, according to a report from NBA insider Shams Charania. The injury comes as a major early setback for the Mavericks, who had high expectations for Exum this season.

Exum played a key role off the bench in Dallas’ run to the 2024 NBA Finals, providing solid defense and timely scoring. His absence creates an immediate gap in the Mavericks’ backcourt, where he had emerged as a valuable reserve player.

The Australian guard joined Dallas in July 2023 after spending several years playing in the EuroLeague, where he found success before returning to the NBA.

Last season, Exum averaged 7.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game in 19.8 minutes of action. He proved to be an efficient shooter, particularly from beyond the arc, where his improved three-point shooting added depth to the Mavericks’ offensive arsenal.

Exum’s recovery timeline of three months means he could return in early 2025, but his reintegration into the lineup will depend on his rehabilitation progress. The Mavericks medical staff will closely monitor his condition to ensure a full recovery before he returns to the court.
