In a wide-ranging discussion with Milun Nesovic of Serbian publication Meridian Sport, Partizan Belgrade president Ostoja Mijailovic addressed several topics involving both current and former NBA players, according to relays from Eurohoops and Sportando.
Mijailovic explained the financial details behind Cameron Payne’s move to the Sixers. Because of league restrictions, Philadelphia could only pay Partizan $875K in the buyout agreement.
However, the Serbian club ultimately received $1.75 million, with Mijailovic noting that Payne personally covered the remaining $875K.
He also confirmed that Partizan forward Isaac Bonga drew interest from NBA teams last month. The club was offered $875K as part of a potential buyout but chose to reject the proposal, preferring to retain the former second-round pick.
That flexibility will disappear after the 2025/26 season, when Partizan will no longer be able to decline a buyout offer, making a summer departure more plausible.
Mijailovic additionally admitted that the organization has some regrets regarding the sizable contracts given to Jabari Parker and Shake Milton.
At the same time, he emphasized the club’s continued admiration for Dante Exum, who was waived by Washington last month following a trade from Dallas. Exum has not appeared this season while recovering from a knee injury.
“It is certainly our desire to bring back players who left a mark at Partizan and who can help the team on the court,” Mijailovic said, per Eurohoops. “Exum is one of the players we all adored, and we still adore him.”
