The upcoming March meeting won’t mark the first time NBA team owners have been briefed on the league’s potential plans for a European division.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis made a formal presentation to NBA team owners in New York last fall, outlining the vision and feasibility of launching a European league.

Following that, George Aivazoglou, the NBA’s managing director for Europe and the Middle East, met with a committee of owners in November.

During his presentation, Aivazoglou delved deeper into the strategic details, including which cities the league would target for expansion and how the European market could be tapped effectively.

These earlier discussions laid the groundwork for what will be revisited during the March meeting, providing the league’s governors with a clearer picture of the opportunities and challenges associated with such an ambitious move.
