Vasilije Micic, a two-time EuroLeague champion, may soon make a return to Europe after a brief stint in the NBA. The Serbian guard, currently with the Charlotte Hornets, is considering a move back to EuroLeague next season, according to Sportando.
Micic, who is under a $7.7 million contract with the Hornets for the 2024-25 season, has a team option worth $8.1 million for next year. Despite showing promise in the NBA, Micic has faced a limited role with Charlotte.
After signing with the Oklahoma City Thunder in July 2023, Micic played 30 games, averaging 3.3 points and 2.5 assists per game. In February 2024, he was traded to the Hornets as part of a deal that sent Gordon Hayward to Oklahoma City.
Since joining the Hornets, Micic’s role has increased. This season he is averaging 7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 20.6 minutes per game. His strong play has led to speculation about his future, with reports suggesting that he could be a trade candidate ahead of the deadline.
As Micic’s time in the NBA hangs in the balance, the EuroLeague is ready to welcome him back. Panathinaikos has expressed interest in bringing him aboard, but his former team Crvena Zvezda appears to be the frontrunner for his services.
