Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jaylin Williams has made a bold statement about teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, calling him the NBA’s Most Valuable Player.
The Thunder, riding a 13-game winning streak, lead the Western Conference with a Western Conference-best 28-5 record, largely thanks to Gilgeous-Alexander’s remarkable performances.
“I think Shai IS the MVP,” Williams told NBA Insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson. The Thunder big man emphasized Gilgeous-Alexander’s two-way dominance and ability to deliver on both ends of the court, making him the clear choice for the league’s top honor.
The 26-year-old guard is averaging 31.2 points, 6.1 assists, 5.5 rebounds, and two steals per game this season. He has been instrumental in Oklahoma City’s rise, leading the team to its best start in years and electrifying fans with his stellar play.
Williams also noted that he felt Gilgeous-Alexander was MVP-worthy last season but believes this year has solidified his case. “Shai comes on the court and he plays and he shows that he’s one of, if not the best player in the league night in and night out,” Williams said.
Gilgeous-Alexander currently leads All-Star voting for Western Conference guards, underscoring the respect he has earned from fans and peers alike. His ability to impact games on both offense and defense has elevated the Thunder to legitimate title contenders.
“He has so much to his game,” Williams added. “He plays on both ends of the floor, and so, if I had to vote for NBA MVP, I’d vote for Shai.”
