Maccabi Tel Aviv has bolstered its roster by signing Marial Shayok to a two-year contract, the club announced on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old swingman will reunite with his South Sudan national team teammate, Wenyen Gabriel, with whom he represented the country at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Shayok brings a wealth of international experience to Maccabi. He arrives from the Liaoning Flying Leopards of the Chinese Basketball Association, where he averaged 13.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists this season.

In addition to his recent success in China, Shayok has experience in the EuroLeague from his time with Fenerbahce Istanbul. During the 2021-22 season, he averaged 4.6 points in 15 EuroLeague appearances.

Born in Canada, Shayok’s basketball journey took him to the United States, where he played for the University of Virginia and Iowa State University.

His professional career began in 2019 with the Philadelphia 76ers and their G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.

Since entering the professional ranks, Shayok has played for several teams across multiple leagues, including Frutti Extra Bursaspor in Turkiye, the Maine Celtics in the G League, and Shandong Kirin and Liaoning in China.
