Quentin Grimes is set to enter restricted free agency after failing to reach a contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto. The 24-year-old guard will test the market at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.

Grimes, who was traded to Dallas in July, in exchange for Tim Hardaway Jr. and three second-round picks, has averaged 8.5 points and shot 37.1% from beyond the arc over his three-year NBA career. He is in the final season of a four-year, $11.1 million rookie deal.

The Mavericks now face a pivotal offseason decision regarding Grimes, who has shown potential as a sharpshooter and defender.

Last season, Grimes averaged 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while splitting time between the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons.

The Mavericks’ decision to let Grimes enter restricted free agency means they will have the opportunity to match any offer sheet he receives from other teams. However, the market will ultimately dictate Grimes’ value as teams seek young talent with potential upside.
