New York Knicks forward Precious Achiuwa is expected to be sidelined for the next 2-4 weeks after sustaining a strained left hamstring. NBA insider Chris Haynes broke the news on X, revealing that Achiuwa will be re-evaluated within this timeframe to assess his recovery.

Achiuwa, who re-signed with the Knicks on a one-year, $6 million deal in July, has been a key contributor in New York’s rotation. Last season, he averaged 7.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 24.2 minutes per game, providing solid frontcourt depth for the team.

The injury comes at an unfortunate time for the Knicks, who were hoping to build early-season momentum. Achiuwa, known for his defensive versatility and rebounding ability, will be missed as the team navigates the opening stretch of the season without him.

Achiuwa was traded to the Knicks on December 30, 2023, in a deal that also sent OG Anunoby and Malachi Flynn to New York in exchange for RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and a second-round draft pick. His presence has been valuable to the Knicks’ frontcourt, especially in providing energy and hustle off the bench.

While hamstring injuries can be tricky to manage, the Knicks will be cautious with Achiuwa’s rehabilitation to prevent any long-term setbacks. The team is expected to re-evaluate him after the initial 2-4 week period to determine his progress.
