Precious Achiuwa emphasized his commitment to the Sacramento Kings following Sunday night’s 116-111 victory over the Utah Jazz. The 26-year-old center, who posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, spoke openly about his desire to stay with the franchise.
“I love Sacramento. The city’s embraced me, the team has embraced me. The organization from the front office to my teammates and the coaching staff,” Achiuwa said. “I truly, truly love being here and I hope… I would really love to be here. I hope once the offseason comes around, they’ll be willing to have me come back.”
Achiuwa credited the Kings’ improved performance in recent games to adherence to team principles and veteran leadership. “We’re following the game plan, playing the right way, playing hard, playing winning basketball, relying on our vets to lead us tonight,” he explained, referencing standout performances from DeMar DeRozan and Russell in previous contests.
Reflecting on his personal journey, Achiuwa noted that early-season uncertainty did not shake his confidence. “At the beginning of the season, I really did not have any doubts… I knew once the opportunity presented itself, I’d be able to perform at a higher level,” he said.
The forward also highlighted the impact of playing under Kings head coach Doug Christie. “It’s been amazing. He cares on a personal level… mentally, physically, family, all that type of stuff. On the basketball court, I’ve learned a lot from him,” Achiuwa said.
On the offensive side, Achiuwa cited his ability to adapt as a key area of growth. “Just taking what the game gives to me… attacking the basket, spacing out, playing the dunker, pick and roll, different kinds of positions,” he said. “It’s confidence and opportunity and I put in a lot of work.”
He also praised DeRozan’s all-around performance against Utah. “11 assists, 100%. I’ve never seen him pass the ball that often. Being his teammate is just as impressive… maybe more impressive,” Achiuwa said.
Looking ahead, Achiuwa stressed his focus on complementing the team’s top scorers while maintaining his defensive presence. “For me, it’s how can I complement those guys once they come back… and continue to do what I do defensively, offensively, and impact winning,” he said.
Achiuwa’s current deal with the Kings is a one-year, $2.45 million contract. With the franchise embracing his growth and contributions, his comments signal a strong preference for continuity in Sacramento beyond the 2025–26 season.
