LeBron James stirred controversy among NBA fans on Thursday when he offered congratulations to a convicted drug trafficker who had recently been released from prison.

Demetrius ‘Big Meech’ Flenory, the co-founder of the infamous drug trafficking group Black Mafia Family (BMF), was moved this week to a residential reentry facility in Miami, as confirmed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Flenory, who was convicted of drug trafficking and money laundering in 2008 and initially sentenced to 30 years, has a serious criminal history.

Following the news of Flenory’s transfer, the Los Angeles Lakers star James posted on social media, “Welcome home Big Meech!!” accompanied by a salute emoji.
