The Mavericks have waived shooting guard A.J. Lawson. While Lawson was on a non-guaranteed deal, his release stands out since he was on a multiyear contract rather than a typical training camp or Exhibit 10 deal.

Lawson, 24, signed a two-year, two-way contract with Dallas in December 2022 after being waived by Minnesota. In March 2024, he was promoted to the standard roster on a four-year deal, guaranteed only for the rest of 2023/24.

In two seasons with Dallas, Lawson played 56 games, including 42 in 2023/24, averaging 3.4 points and 1.3 rebounds. He also played seven G League games, averaging 20.7 points and 7.0 rebounds.
