Los Angeles Lakers legend and former NBA head coach Byron Scott has made a bold prediction regarding the future of Victor Wembanyama.
Scott believes that Wembanyama will become the best player in the NBA within three years.
In an interview with The Athletic’s Doug Haller, Scott praised Wembanyama’s work ethic and humility as key to his future success.
“If he’s everything that I keep hearing about as far as his work ethic… he’ll be the best player in the NBA in three years,” Scott said.
Wembanyama’s impressive rookie season with the San Antonio Spurs has already sparked high expectations.
The French center won the Rookie of the Year award after a dominant debut season.
He averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 3.6 blocks per game in his first year.
Scott also predicted that Wembanyama will make an All-Star appearance in his second season.
“He’ll be an All-Star this season, maybe first- or second-team All-NBA,” Scott added during his interview.
Wembanyama’s blend of size, skill, and defensive prowess has made him one of the most anticipated talents in recent years.
Scott is confident that the Spurs, who finished 22-60 last season, will benefit greatly from Wembanyama’s presence.
The Spurs are hoping to make their first playoff appearance since 2019, with Wembanyama leading the way.
