Hamidou Diallo has signed with the Sichuan Blue Whales for the 2024-25 season, according to Alberto De Roa of HoopsHype.
The former NBA player, known for his high-flying athleticism and 2019 Slam Dunk Contest victory, will continue his professional career in the Chinese Basketball Association.
Diallo’s deal with the Blue Whales marks a new chapter for the 26-year-old guard, who spent the previous season in the G League with the Capital City Go-Go.
In the 2023-24 season, Diallo averaged 20.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 29.3 minutes per game for the Go-Go.
Diallo also had brief stints with the Washington Wizards, appearing in two games and averaging 1 point and 1 rebound in limited minutes.
The Detroit Pistons, where Diallo played from 2021 to 2023, were the last NBA team to offer him a substantial role.
Before his time in Detroit, Diallo started his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder after being selected with the 45th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
Known for his explosive leaping ability, Diallo made headlines when he won the 2019 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, jumping over Shaquille O’Neal in one of the event’s most memorable moments.
After showing flashes of potential with the Thunder and Pistons, Diallo has struggled to find a consistent role in the NBA.
A combination of injuries and fluctuating minutes limited his opportunities to establish himself as a key contributor.
Despite his NBA journey, Diallo remained a solid performer in the G League, where he showcased his scoring and rebounding abilities.
His move to China provides an opportunity for a fresh start and the chance to reestablish himself as a major player overseas.
For the Sichuan Blue Whales, Diallo brings scoring ability, rebounding, and a dynamic presence on the floor.
