Miami Heat guard Jaime Jaquez Jr. has revealed that his primary focus this offseason was improving his three-point shooting.
Speaking about his progress, Jaquez emphasized that sharpening his long-range skills was crucial for both his personal development and the Heat’s aspirations.
“My three-point shooting, that’s an area that I really wanted to improve,” said the 23-year-old, per Anthony Chiang of Miami Herald.
Jaquez, who spent part of the offseason training with Team USA’s Select Team ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, took the opportunity to work alongside some of the league’s top talent.
He noted that this experience, combined with his participation in the Heat’s summer league, helped him focus on refining his shooting mechanics. The young guard acknowledged that improving his three-point shot would be key for Miami’s push toward winning a championship in the upcoming season.
Jaquez’s dedication to enhancing his three-point accuracy comes after a solid rookie season with the Heat, where he averaged 11.9 points per game while shooting 32.2% from beyond the arc.
While his field goal percentage was strong at 48.9%, his three-point shooting was an area that needed improvement if he hoped to contribute more effectively to the team’s offensive game plan.
By focusing on repetition and honing his mechanics, Jaquez aims to be a more consistent threat from deep, which will help space the floor for his teammates, including stars Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.
