Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeannie Buss recently shared her thoughts on rookie Bronny James as he prepares for his debut season with the team.
Buss emphasized the importance of giving James the opportunity to prove himself worthy of wearing the Lakers uniform.
She acknowledged that being the son of a superstar like LeBron James comes with unique challenges but praised Bronny’s dedication and work ethic.
In an interview on Petros and Money, Buss emphasized the importance of allowing Bronny to prove himself in the NBA, stating, “We have to let the kid have an opportunity to play and prove that he should be in a Laker uniform.”
She highlighted Bronny’s dedication and strong work ethic, noting, “He works hard, he’s dedicated. He really wants to do this.”
Buss expressed confidence in Bronny’s potential, noting that his mentality aligns with what the Lakers value in their players.
The Lakers selected Bronny with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, making history as the first father-son duo in the league.
Buss acknowledged the pressures Bronny faces but praised his determination to succeed on his own merits.
She believes that with a roster full of players who share Bronny’s drive, “the sky is the limit.”
The decision to draft James was met with speculation, particularly surrounding the influence of his agent, Rich Paul.
Former Golden State Warriors general manager and ESPN analyst Bob Myers reported that Paul allegedly warned other teams not to draft Bronny, hinting at a potential move overseas to play in the National Basketball League (NBL) in Australia.
Despite the controversy, the Lakers signed Bronny James to a four-year, $7.89 million contract, officially bringing him onto the roster.
Bronny’s journey will be closely watched as he embarks on his NBA career alongside his legendary father.
