Phoenix Suns superstar Devin Booker initially thought the Miami Heat would draft him.
Booker recalled this during a conversation with D’Angelo Russell, reflecting on his pre-draft workouts and expectations.
“That’s where I was hoping… Miami was my best workout,” Booker said, via HoopsHype.
Pat Riley, President of the Heat, mentioned the team was looking for a shooter.
“I think Pat Riley came into an interview and said, ‘We’re looking for a player like Klay Thompson, we need to up our shooting,’” Booker continued.
The guard, who shot 40% from three in college, felt confident Miami would select him.
“I’m like ‘oh yeah,’ I’m looking at spots right down there by the arena,” he said.
However, draft night took an unexpected turn for Booker.
“Draft is crazy, your life changes like that, you have no control over it really,” Booker added.
The Suns selected Booker at No. 13, a pick that has proven successful.
At 27, Booker is a four-time All-Star and a key player for Team USA.
His career in Phoenix has been marked by impressive performances and accolades.
Last season, Booker averaged 27.1 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists per game.
