Kawhi Leonard, the Los Angeles Clippers superstar, will not make his Team USA debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics, despite ramping up his preparation in recent weeks.
USA Basketball confirmed Leonard’s withdrawal, stating that while he felt ready to compete, both he and the Clippers decided it was best for him to focus on preparing for the upcoming NBA season rather than participating in the Olympics.
In his place, Team USA has selected Derrick White, fresh off his championship win with the Boston Celtics.
White, who averaged 15.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game last season, brings versatility and recent competitive success to the national team.
This marks White’s second stint with Team USA, having previously represented the country at the 2019 FIBA World Cup, where the team finished 7th.
Team USA’s first warmup game is scheduled tonight against Canada in Las Vegas.
